Something I’m very excited about is that I joined a Facebook group called 2016 Bash Your Stash Challenge. We are a group of ladies around the world who are going to use 2016 to challenge ourselves to craft and scrap with our supplies on-hand rather than going out and buying, buying, buying then not using. I think this will be a great challenge for me. I have such a wonderful stash of supplies that I can’t wait to start using. I going to try hard to stick to the rules. One good thing is that I’m still allowed to buy tools or necessities like page protectors, ink, tape, and glue. I won’t be able to resist Black Friday deals next year, but hopefully that will be the only time I buckle.
While I do have one more order I’ve placed for crafty goodies this year, I already started to embrace the challenge by creating this Photo Christmas Gift for my kids’ great grandma. I bought those super pretty flowers years ago but hadn’t found the right use for them until today. I also don’t use ribbon or gems nearly enough so was happy to be able to incorporate them. I also whipped out the hot glue gun which I hardly ever use. Let the challenge begin!
I don’t have a lot of time these days to think through photos or layouts so when I had a little time to myself last night, I decided to put my crafting itch to use by decorating my planner. I kept it pretty minimal for now, but was able to use my washi tape and some small stamps I haven’t used before.
It happened. I had a wedding to attend a couple weekends ago, and had no wedding cards made and no time to make one with a toddler and a newborn. Well, I refuse to buy a card when I can make one so I challenged myself to create a card as quickly as possible that could still pass for a nice wedding card.
I turned to a DCWV foiled patterned paper, a congratulations die from the My Favorite Things Centerpieces Congratulations Shaker die set, and topped off the die with a Wink of Stella clear glitter brush pen. There’s a lot more I could have done to pretty it up, but I think it turned out darn good for a 5 minute card!
Well, it’s happened. I was able to craft a decent amount and write quite a few posts at the beginning of my maternity leave because Brandon had 6 weeks off with me. It definitely helped get me through the toughest part of having a newborn to be able to get away a little bit and do something I enjoy.
However, I’ve now reached the point where I no longer have the free time to craft since he is back to work, and is starting to travel. I’m quite bummed I need to put this wonderful outlet of mine on hold, but I keep trying to tell myself that it’s temporary, and I’ll be back to my crafty self in no time. So, I’m taking everything in with my little ones and enjoying our time together while they’re little.
In the meantime, I wanted to share my first digital scrapbook layout from a few years ago. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the designers of the elements any longer. I really enjoyed digital scrapbooking but I went away from it when I started working from home, because I was spending way too much time on the computer during the day to also be doing hobby stuff at night.
Now that I’m not working from home it’ll be less strain for me to start doing it again so I’d like to get back into it eventually. I still have my love for cardmaking (this was pre-cardmaking) and my newfound love for Project Life scrapbooking so I think I’ll just complete my wedding album digitally since I have a few layouts done already. After that, we’ll have to see! It’ll be awhile before I need to worry about it. 😉
